Në Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës më 19 tetor 2004 humbi jetën, bashkë me nënën dhe vajzën 7-vjeçare, një nga zërat më premtues të muzikës së lehtë shqiptare, këngëtarja Anita Bitri.

Prej 8 vitesh Anita Bitri ishte vendosur në SHBA së bashku me familjen e saj. Gjatë qëndrimit në Amerikë aktiviteti artistik i Anitës ka qënë i vazhdueshëm. Ajo ka qënë gjithmonë e lidhur me problemet e Diasporës Shqiptare dhe ka ndihmuar shumë në rritjen e prestigjit të artit shqiptar. Anita ishte jo vetëm një artiste e talentuar, por gjithashtu edhe një aktiviste në komunitetin shqiptar, me pjesmarrje në koncertet e bamirësisë dhe aktivitete të ndryshme të Diasporës për mbledhjen e ndihmave për l uftën në Kosovë. Në këtë kontekst është për t’u theksuar koncerti i bamirësisë që u zhvillua në 10 prill 2000 për mbledhjen e ndihmave për fëmijët e varfër të Shqipërisë.

Ajo ishte njëkohësisht dhe një anëtare aktive e Organizatës së Gruas Shqiptare në Amerikë “Motrat Qiriazi”. Anita e shikonte pjesëmarrjen në koncertet e ndryshme të komunitetit si dhe ato bamirëse si vazhdimësi të rrugës së saj artistike. Në këtë mënyrë, talentin dhe zërin e mrekullueshëm ja dedikoi tërësisht çështjes shqiptare.
