19 vjet më parë si sot u nda nga jeta në moshën 36-vjeçare këngëtarja shqiptare, Anita Bitri. Një vdekje e trefishtë, bashkë me të bijën dhe të ëmën, nga helmimi me monoksid karboni. Pas këtij aksidenti tragjik në SHBA u miratua ligji për vendosjen e detyrueshme të detektorit kundër monoksidit të karbonit, që u quajt “Ligji Anita”
Pikërisht dje u bënë plot nëntëmbëdhjet vjet që këngëtarja Anita Bitri nuk ndodhet më mes të gjallëve. Anita Bitri- Prapaniku (8 janar 1968 – 19 tetor 2004) u nda nga jeta në shtëpinë e saj në Staten Island, New York, së bashku me vajzën e saj 8-vjeçare Sibora Nini dhe nënën e saj 66-vjeçare Azbije.
Të tria u ndanë nga kjo jetë së bashku, në gjumë, për shkak të një vdekjeje, e cila, sipas hetimeve të policisë vendase erdhi nga helmimi me monoksid karboni. Ndërkohë që një rrugë në qendër të Vlorës tani mban emrin “Anita Bitri”.
Bitri filloi të këndonte në moshën 16-vjeçare dhe u bë e famshme në Shqipëri me këngën e saj “Dashuria e parë”.
Në kohën e vdekjes së saj, ajo ishte në proces të regjistrimit të dy albumeve, një në shqip dhe një në anglisht. Ai më i fundit ishte për fatin e saj të keq, albumi që nuk arriti ta promovojë, “Gjithmonë mes jush”, një video-album ky me këngën me një titull profetik, e cila i ngjan një parandjenje.
Anita Bitri emigroi në SHBA në vitin 1996. Dashuria për violinën, ngjizja e pandashme me muzikën dhe suksesi, i cili vazhdoi dhe në Shtetet e Bashkuara të Amerikës, e bëri Bitrin të ketë historinë e jetës së një artisteje të madhe, të një ylli të skenës shqiptare.
Këngëtarja Bitri me stilin e këngës së saj kishte krijuar profilin e saj në SHBA, jo vetëm te shqiptarët, por edhe tek amerikanët. Arben Bitri, vëllai i këngëtares, përmes emocioneve të mëdha dhe hidhërimit të thellë, ka deklaruar se këngëtarja e mirënjohur shqiptare Anita Bitri duket sikur “fluturoi në misionin që i dha asaj Nënë Tereza”.
